The business world kicked off 2018 with the international Consumer Electronics Show or CES (for short) from 9 to 12 January. The event attracted more than 3,900 exhibitors who presented their technologies to approximately 170,000 attendees under a single roof. The event showcased many emerging technologies that businesses are effectively leveraging. However, out of all these technologies, IoT was still leading as the favorite business technology in comparison with other showcased hi-tech stuff.
In this article, we shall have a look at some of the major announcements made by the leading pioneers of IoT technology and how they are implementing it for their client’s businesses.

A leading provider of cloud-based software, global connectivity service platform and network build-out provider for Internet of Things -Senet is all set to partner with Sagemcom, a European leader of high value-added smart terminals market, demonstrated LoRaWan geological services at CES 2018.

“LoRaWAN geolocation brings a strong disruption in the asset management and logistic markets and is a viable commercial technology for a wide variety of IoT applications where GPS is cost and/or battery life prohibitive.” –Eric Rieul, CEO Sagemcom Energy and Telecom SAS.

It is noticeable that LoRaWAN supports GPS free geolocations and can be used as an alternative to BLE for indoor location. The device sends a signal to three different gateways so as to triangulate a position and offers accuracy up to 100m. LoRaWAN is a great solution for LoRa sensors without GPS as LoRaWAN geolocation is low-power so will not drain batteries quickly.

IoT has laid the foundation of the connected city and tech giants like Bosch are gazing the potential that the market holds. It is for this reason that Bosch is investing a huge amount on smart city solutions and is planning to step into it with Climo. Climo would enhance smart city solutions by measuring air-quality parameters in real time. Smart cities require a combination of IoT, AI, and data analytics to connect a wide variety of devices together while making use of the data these devices collect. Flexible IoT platforms will be especially useful as they must be able to manage and monitor a wide array of devices.

“Bosch recognized this potential early on. Even now, more than half our electronic product classes are web-enabled – and the aim is for this to be 100% by 2020. Not only that: for each of our products, we want to offer accompanying services.”  Dr Stefan Hartung, Member of board of management, Robert Bosch GmbH
